Lasius psammophilus, nests

Lasius psammophilus nest mainly in sandy dune habitats 1. At the Iberian Peninsula the species is known from some localities in the atlantic and cantabrian coasts 2.

The following images were taken in Ortigueira (A Coruña, Spain). The habitat is formed by coastal dunes. Lasius psammophilus nest mainly in the base of the plants, I supose because their roots help to maintain the nest structure in a so unsteady substrate as sand is.
