Tapinoma madeirense migration

Culleredo (A Coruña, Spain), July 2005. A Tapinoma madeirense colony decided to change its residence after a heavy rain.

Ant species that invest less energy in nest construction and maintenance have more chances to leave the old nest and look for a new one. Tapinoma madeirense fits on this model, and their nests are normally very unstructured, without the complex system of tunnels and chambers that are common in another species.
